A "Must Have" for family tv viewing!
We love our TV Guardian! It is so simple and yet so effective. It mutes the volume when offensive language would be spoken and it places a written text on the screen that is not offensive but keeps the flow of the movie or show going. At first it seems odd for the sound to drop out while you are watching a program, but you get used to it very quickly and after a short while you are amazed how much bad language you would be exposed to without the TV Guardian. It is very difficult to watch tv without the TV Guardian now because we are so used to having the foul language filtered out. I would not hesitate to purchase this product. In fact, we are giving it out as presents this Christmas to our family. I thought it would only work with DVD movies, but it actually works just as well with the regular TV channels. I KNOW TVG PRODUCTS OUTSIDE AND IN - EXCELLENT PRODUCT - TOO BAD WE DIDN'T HAVE IT YEARS AGO!
TV GUARDIAN AND CURSE FREE TV are terrific products. Why does Hollywood have to spoil an otherwise fantastic movie with a lot of really foul and disgusting language. Well with TV Guardian you can stop that!APPLICATIONS: Virtually all programs have closed captions (except some DVD's). TVG reads those captions and mutes the audio for the phrase. If you have it enabled it can place a replacement phrase on the screen. a wonderful thing to have if you have kids and don't want to expose them to all those terrible words!!
I LOVE our TVGuardian!! they are phenominal. It lets us still watch tv, but I sure wouldn't watch it without it! It mutes the bad words on the tv. I don't know why hollywood feels they have to ruin a good movie in the first place, but they do! This helps us as parents still protect our children and watch a good show...you still have to watch the sexual content though, it doesn't get rid of any visual!

THE FILTH STOPS HERE! BRAVO MODEL 301
As others have written about TV Guardian's other models the same pretty much applies to this one. This is basically an updated model of the very popular Model 101 aka CurseFreeTV. This is very similar to the 201 and 401 models too. It has separate filter settings for He** and Da**, sexual references and religious settings. Has audience groups (children,adults, other) that you can somewhat custom configure. It supports composite and S-Video Picture sources and Line level audio and 5.1 Dolby digital audio via electrical Coaxial connection (Orange RCA jack). Unlike the 201 and 401 it only supports one input however many times this can be overcome by just "daisy chaining" your sources (Output of one source eg DVD Player, feeds the input of another eg VCR).As with any TVG standalone product... The TV/DVD/VCR Cursing Filter. Thank Goodness!!
Five Big "NON-Cursing" Stars!! TV Guardian is wonderful technology, but with some hookup limitations!If you're tired of the incessant and unnecessary cursing on TV shows and DVD/VCR movies, this is a great gift for yourself and your family. It shuts down the cursing and specific foul language on any show that has a written closed caption track inbedded in the TV show, VCR, or DVD movie soundtracks. In my case, I have it set to detect any curse word or phrase, briefly mute the sound, and put up a bland written substitute word or phrase on the bottom of the screen so that continuty is maintained, and then restore the sound track immediately following the phrase. It works amazingly well. We have a TV Guardian on all three of our TV sets and we love them. It takes about a week to get used to it and it's clear sailing from then on. If a TV show, VCR or DVD movie doesn't have a caption track, it flashes a "No TVG" on the lower left hand corner of the screen to warn you that...

I won't watch TV without it!!! Great for Standard Def TV
This product does not handle High Definition input (anything over 480p), such as Blu-Ray, but I found a way around it. I have an HD TV, Blu-Ray DVD Player, and Dish Network HD. My TV has several input options so I hooked it up like this:Sat Receiver HDMI to TVBlu-Ray Composite video and Optical Digital Audio out to TVG (Input 1)Sat Receiver Composite video and RCA Audio to TVG (Input 2)Blu-Ray HDMI to TV.I then hook the TVG Optical Audio output to my surround sound stereo. Then the video out put from the TVG and RCA audio output to the TV on a different input.This gives me the option of watching Blu-Ray and HD Sat in the High Def video, and have the audio filtered by the TVG through my surround sound stereo. (I turn the TV volume down) I loose the benefit of having the closed captioned alternate words come on the screen, but can enjoy a movie like "Men in Black" with the foul language filtered and the video in HD. Thanks for posting that this does NOT have a tuner!
Thank you to all the people posting that this does unit does NOT have a tuner, since Amazon doesn't seem to have that fact anywhere in their product description. I figured that it didn't, based on the price, but having that spelled out clearly in the listings would be pretty useful and save on Amazon having to deal with a bunch of returns from people who needed to have one with a tuner. Philips may be a decent brand, but we don't have a cable or satellite box and hook up our stuff directly to the RF cable from the cable company, so this unit would do us no good whatsoever. If your cable hook up setup is similar, SKIP this unit.

Works well, with some limitations
Overall, the TV Guardian works very well. There are a few shortcomings, however.1. This model only works with standard definition TV. There's an HD model available from [...].2. It usually doesn't work with DVDs, because DVDs usually use subtitles instead of closed captioning, and the TV Guardian can't interpret subtitles.3. Sometimes the closed-caption signal is garbled in transmission, and TV Guardian will allow profanity to slip through. This is a problem with closed captioning, though, not with TV Guardian.Despite these limitations, I've had a very good experience with TV Guardian, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to filter out bad language. Never had a problem, but membership facts should be clarified
I absolutely love my ClearPlay DVD player. I have owned it for close to a year and never had a problem with it. I rent from Blockbuster, Redbox, etc., and I've never rented a movie for which a filter was not available.I see that many people on Amazon are upset about ClearPlay's membership policies, and I agree that it is not made clear on their website that if you don't continue your membership, you can't continue to use the filters. This should definitely be clarified. The salesperson I spoke with when first purchasing my player made sure I understood that the filters could no longer be used once my membership expired. Although this means I have to keep my membership current, I understand their business model... how will they make money when people only purchase a 1 month membership, download all the filters they can, and then quit?Occasionally ClearPlay has specials where you can extend your membership for a lower rate, so if you take advantage of the...

Clearplay HD
I have been a fan of Clearplay since they started. The earlier, non-HD players, had a few flaws, but worked well. There were problems with some of the movie filters which caused the player to hang up momentarily. The next generation of players seemed to have some serious technical problems, and at one point I thought about cancelling my membership. I decided to speak with their customer support group and decided to give their new HD player a try. I love it. The quality is there. They still have a problem with some of their movie filters, but I have not experienced any hardware issues. It looks like they got a handled on their players.

Beware Before You Buy. Not Advertised.
I bought the player last summer and got the free membership with it. We used it to edit the movies but also use it as a regular player. After the first month was over, I received a call asking me to renew the membership. I couldn't at the time and told the representative that I already had all the filters I wanted. He then told me that I would have to pay an additional 20 dollars on top of the monthly fee to re-activate my account when I could. It seemed honest enough. Within a week of the 90 Day Warranty expiring, the player stopped working. I would insert a disc and it would spit it back out. I called customer service and they sent me some files to my e-mail to put on the filter stick to fix the problem. What they didn't tell me was that these files would delete my filters and not fix the problem. When I called them back they said they couldn't help me unless I paid them 70 dollars for a year of membership. I told them to forget it and decided to see if I could fix the problem...
